Do NOT rebuild from scratch. Keep the existing map, sprites, engine, backend integrations (Supabase) and the SQK balances of existing wallet players. Where a point below explicitly removes or replaces a feature, that is approved. Do not change anything else without approval.

  1. MOBILE LAYOUT (landscape, full-screen game)
  • The game canvas fills the whole screen in landscape. Controls are overlaid on the canvas: A) Bottom-left: circular virtual joystick for movement.

    B) Bottom-right: large circular ATTACK button.

    C) Just above B (upper right): JUMP button.

1, 2, 3) Three weapon-slot buttons in a row to the left of B: 1 = gun, 2 = bomb, 3 = sword. The player can switch weapons freely at any time. A slot is only active/lit once that weapon has been picked up. With no weapon selected, the attack is the default chestnut throw.

  • Remove the Shield, Look and Swap buttons (Swap is replaced by slots 1/2/3).

  • Keep the HUD minimal on top of the canvas (SQK, Map, Defeated, Score). Collapse Profile, Marketplace, GUILD, Audio, Top 100, Connect MetaMask and Pause into one compact menu button so nothing blocks gameplay.

  • Add a fullscreen button. Use the Fullscreen API and screen.orientation.lock("landscape") where supported, with a graceful fallback (e.g. a "rotate your phone" prompt) where it is not supported, such as iPhone Safari.

  1. DESKTOP CONTROLS
  • Attack = left mouse button and Enter (remove the X key). E = pick up items. Keys 1/2/3 select gun/bomb/sword. Keep existing movement and jump keys.
  1. WEAPONS & AMMO
  • Chestnut attack has unlimited ammo (this is the default attack).
  • A gun holds 100 bullets. When it runs out, it disappears from the weapon bar and the player must defeat monsters to get a new one.
  • Bomb and sword are separate weapons that can be picked up and used from slots 2 and 3.
  1. DROPS (single roll per defeated monster, mutually exclusive, total 100%)
  • Big chestnut 10%, small chestnut 40%, SQK coin 20%, gun 10%, sword 10%, bomb 10%.
  • Small chestnut = 1 point, big chestnut = 5 points. Replace the old "Shells" HUD counter with a Score counter.
  • Dropped items are collected with E on desktop.
  • Prevent duplicate rewards (one drop = one pickup).
  1. REMOVE SHIELD AND HEALTH
  • Remove the shield and the health bar completely. The player dies immediately when hit by a monster or projectile. Show a simple game-over screen with a restart option.
  • Keep monster HP scaling (+20% per map). Monster damage scaling is no longer needed.
  1. MARKETPLACE (replace completely)
  • Remove ALL current items, including the Badge Exchange. Do not delete players' stored data; just remove these items from the store.
  • Costumes, 50 SQK each: Deadpool hamster, Batman hamster, Spider-Man hamster, Superman hamster, Samurai hamster. Match the existing pixel-art style. Players can buy and equip them; each costume can only be bought once per account.
  • Weapon upgrades (apply to gun, sword and bomb): +10% damage for 50 SQK, +20% damage for 50 SQK, +25% damage for 150 SQK.
  • SQK must be deducted reliably, with no duplicate purchases.
  1. REMOVE DICE
  • Remove the SQK Dice mini-game, its statistics and its Dice achievement badges from the UI and code. Do not remove any player's SQK balance.
  1. BRANDING
  • The website display name (page title and header) is "squeek.hamster". Do not change DNS or hosting, and keep the existing website address.
  1. SCORES, LEADERBOARD, MetaMask
  • Scores and progress are saved only for players connected with MetaMask. Guest players (not connected) are not saved and do not appear on the leaderboard.
  • Top 100 leaderboard of the highest scores, updated daily (reset at 00:00 in the timezone I specify: [TIMEZONE]). Sync data through the existing Supabase backend. Never let a guest session overwrite a wallet profile's balance or score.
  • Optionally also fix the two reviewer-found bugs if still applicable after this change.
  1. UI CLEAN-UP
  • Move all "How to play" content into the GUILD menu. The main screen should be clean and have as little text as possible, so remove the long subtitle and the long footer description.
  1. TESTING
  • Test: mobile landscape controls, weapon switching, drop rates, gun ammo, one-hit death, marketplace purchases, daily leaderboard, MetaMask vs guest, and desktop controls. Fix critical bugs before publishing.
  • When done, give a summary of completed features, the assumptions you made and the remaining requirements.

needs input: The daily Top 100 leaderboard reset timezone is unspecified: the brief contains [TIMEZONE], and the existing project has no configured reset timezone. — Which IANA timezone should define the daily leaderboard reset at 00:00 (for example, Europe/Berlin or UTC)?

    #434Codex45 files changed

Updated the existing game in place and prepared dist/index.html.

Implemented the controls, weapons/ammo, exclusive drops, one-hit death, five costumes, upgrades, branding, menu cleanup, and wallet-save/daily-ranking code. The original map, sprites and opening story remain; a data-preserving Supabase migration is included.

Build and type checks passed, alongside 103 behavior checks and 16 design checks.

Assumptions: UTC reset, additive upgrades capped at +55%, three bombs per pickup, and automatic touch pickups. Wallet saves require an explicit login-message signature.

Remaining: apply migration 003 and configure the existing Supabase service, then validate real MetaMask login and physical iPhone/Safari behavior. Cloud features remain unavailable until configured. Setup and limitations are in README.md and VALIDATION.md. DNS and hosting were unchanged.

  3. Design criticAgent #281found 1 high, 2 medium, 1 low

I couldn't run Bash in this session (the sandbox failed to start: "Failed to create bridge sockets"). So the taste@1 probe did not run, and I couldn't take browser screenshots or test anything live. This review comes from reading the source in src/ and supabase/migrations/003_squeek.sql, and measurements are worked out from the CSS. I changed no project files. The four findings are in .imd-findings.json.

    Findings

    • High, bug: the game is stretched out of shape in landscape. The canvas is drawn at a fixed 320×192 and the CSS stretches it to fill the screen (src/styles.css:226). At 844×390 that makes everything 30% wider than it is tall, so the existing sprites the brief said to keep are distorted.
    • Medium, fidelity: a full-width, nearly opaque header bar plus the HUD covers about 95px of the 390px landscape height, around 24% (src/styles.css:227). That goes against "nothing blocks gameplay".
    • Medium, bug: on iPhone in landscape, tapping Fullscreen does nothing you can see. The fallback message is written into the rotate hint, which is hidden unless the phone is in portrait (src/ui.js:167).
    • Low, fidelity: on any desktop with a touchscreen, drops are picked up by walking over them instead of with E (src/game.js:1184).

    • highbug: the 320x192 game canvas is stretched out of proportion to fill a landscape phone, distorting the existing pixel-art spritessrc/styles.css:226

Now: the canvas keeps a fixed 320x192 (5:3) backing store (src/game.js:10 var W = 320, H = 192) and nothing in src/game.js resizes it (no resize handler, no canvas.width assignment, no object-fit). CSS forces it to 100% x 100% of the stage, so on a landscape phone the browser scales x and y by different amounts and every sprite, tile and the hamster is squashed or widened.

Change to: on load and on resize, set canvas.width = Math.round(H * stage.clientWidth / stage.clientHeight) and use that value as W (the camera clamp in updateCamera already reads W), so the view widens instead of stretching. If the engine has to stay at 320 wide, add object-fit: contain; to this rule instead, which letterboxes but keeps the pixels square.

Why: the brief asks that 'the game canvas fills the whole screen in landscape' and to 'Keep the existing map, sprites, engine'. A stretched canvas changes how the sprites look and is a broken layout of the main surface.

Width 844x390 (iPhone 14 landscape), and also 1440x900.

Steps: open dist/index.html, press Start adventure.

Evidence from source: the canvas element is 320x192 and CSS draws it at 844x390, so the horizontal scale is 844/320 = 2.64 and the vertical scale is 390/192 = 2.03.

Horizontal pixels come out 30% wider than vertical ones, so a 16x16 tile shows as 42x32 CSS px.

      At 1440x900 the scales are 4.5 against 4.69, a 4% squash.

Expected: equal scale on both axes.

    • mediumfidelity: a full-width, 92% opaque header bar covers the top quarter of the game in landscapesrc/styles.css:227

Now: the header (the 'squeek.hamster' h1 plus the Fullscreen and Menu buttons) sits on a solid bark-950 band across the whole width. The HUD box sits under it in the .game-chrome grid, so the top ~95px of the canvas is covered.

Change to: set background: transparent; on .site-header so the title stays in the top-left corner and the two buttons in the top-right corner over the scene. Then move the HUD into the header row on wide screens (.game-chrome .hud { position: absolute; inset: 6px auto auto 50%; translate: -50% 0; } inside @media (orientation: landscape)) so the band goes away and the canvas shows up to the top edge.

Why: the brief says 'Keep the HUD minimal on top of the canvas ... so nothing blocks gameplay'. A game's title and utilities belong in the top corners over the scene, not on a bar.

      Width 844x390 landscape.

Steps: open the page and start the game.

      Measured from CSS: header height = 44px buttons (.stage-tools .btn min-height) + 6px + 6px padding = 56px.

      Then the 6px grid gap, then the HUD at 14px x 1.5 line-height + 12px padding = 33px.

That is 95px of 390px (24%), opaque or nearly opaque, over the playfield where the hamster jumps and enemies arc projectiles.

    • mediumbug: on iPhone in landscape the Fullscreen button does nothing visible; its fallback message is written into a hidden elementsrc/ui.js:167

Now: iPhone Safari has no element requestFullscreen, so this branch rewrites #rotate-hint. But .rotate-hint is display: none (src/styles.css:261) and only shown in @media (orientation: portrait) (src/styles.css:368). A player who is already in landscape taps Fullscreen and sees no response. The catch branch at line 169 has the same problem.

Change to: hide the button where the API is missing. After line 161 add if (!document.documentElement.requestFullscreen) fullscreen.hidden = true;. The portrait rotate prompt that is already there remains the fallback.

Why: the brief asks for 'a graceful fallback (e.g. a "rotate your phone" prompt) where it is not supported, such as iPhone Safari'. A button that silently does nothing is not graceful.

      WebKit, iPhone 14 landscape 844x390 (Playwright devices['iPhone 14 landscape']).

Steps: open the page and tap the Fullscreen button (⛶).

Expected: fullscreen, or a visible message, or no button.

Actual: document.documentElement.requestFullscreen is undefined on iPhone WebKit, line 167 sets the text of #rotate-hint, and getComputedStyle(#rotate-hint).display stays 'none' in landscape, so nothing changes on screen.

    • lowfidelity: drops are collected automatically by walking over them on any desktop that has a touchscreen, instead of with Esrc/game.js:1184

Now: navigator.maxTouchPoints > 0 is true on touchscreen Windows laptops and Chromebooks, even when the primary pointer is a mouse. On those machines every drop is collected on contact and E is never needed. The matchMedia call also runs once per pickup per frame.

Change to: var touch = window.matchMedia('(pointer: coarse)').matches;, computed once outside updatePickups (and updated on change), so walk-over pickup applies only where the primary input is touch.

Why: the brief says 'Dropped items are collected with E on desktop.'

Chromium at 1440x900 with touch emulation turned on but a fine pointer (Playwright context { hasTouch: true }, no isMobile).

Steps: start, defeat a monster, walk onto its drop without pressing E.

Expected: the drop stays until E is pressed.

Actual: navigator.maxTouchPoints is greater than 0, so touch is true and line 1185 collects the item on overlap.

  4. Build websiteAgent #65010 files changedsent back

I fixed all four reviewer findings in src/ and copied the same edits into dist/ by hand, but none of it has been run. Bash failed on every call ("Failed to create bridge sockets"), and the browser tool's Chromium isn't installed. So the build, the typecheck/parity check, the database and browser test suites, and the design probe were all not re-run this round. The test numbers in the README and VALIDATION.md are from the last accepted round, and both files now say so.

Findings, all marked fixed in .imd-responses.json. I confirmed each one by reading the source; none were checked on screen.

    • High, stretched canvas: The canvas stays 192 pixels tall, and its width now follows the screen's shape. The new fitView() in src/game.js sets it to 288–416 game pixels and updates it when the window or game area resizes. Both directions now scale by the same amount, so the player sees more or less of the forest instead of squashed sprites. That works out to 416 wide on an 844×390 phone and 307 on a 1440×900 desktop.
      • The sky is drawn at the widest size, and the edge shading is redrawn whenever the width changes.
      • When the view is wider than the boss arena, the camera centres on it.
      • Any screen shape outside that range gets black bars (object-fit: contain) instead of stretching. Portrait keeps the original 320-wide strip.
    • Medium, header bar over the game: The header is see-through now, with an outline on the title so it stays readable. On landscape screens 48rem (768px at default text size) and wider, the score bar moves up into the title row. The header strip no longer blocks mouse attacks; only the Fullscreen and Menu buttons take clicks.
    • Medium, Fullscreen on iPhone: The button is hidden where the browser has no fullscreen support, and the existing "rotate your phone" prompt remains the fallback. If a browser refuses fullscreen, a message now shows for 4 seconds. A refused landscape lock is ignored, since fullscreen already worked.
    • Low, pickups on touchscreen laptops: Walk-over pickup now applies only where the main input is touch ((pointer: coarse)). A touchscreen laptop used with a mouse needs E.

Timezone: I didn't ask about it again. The project already treats it as a database setting the owner changes, defaulting to UTC, as the README and Supabase docs say.

I also added three checks to scripts/validate-squeek.mjs: canvas size at both screen sizes, the see-through header, and E still required on a touchscreen laptop. The landscape phone test now emulates a real phone. These are written but not run.

Before publishing, on a machine where Bash works:

    1. Run npm run build and npm run typecheck.
    2. Run the Playwright suites and the design probe listed in the README.
    3. Look at the 844×390 and 1440×900 screenshots.

Docs updated: README, DESIGN.md (header and canvas sections) and a revision section at the top of VALIDATION.md.

Three prior findings are resolved: canvas distortion, fullscreen fallback and desktop pickup behavior. The header finding remains unresolved because its fix breaks the HUD.

High — bug: the landscape HUD moves offscreen. At both 844×390 and 1440×900, SQK and Map disappear completely. The HUD measures x = −149.98px, y = 62px. A later rule resets its positioning while retaining translate: -50%. Move the landscape override after that rule so all four counters occupy the top row. The author’s new hudTop < 20 assertion also fails. Source: styles.css:423.

    • highbug: the landscape HUD fix translates SQK and Map completely offscreensrc/styles.css:423

Now: the new landscape rule centres the HUD using position:absolute and translate:-50% 0, but the later .game-chrome .hud rule resets position to static without resetting translate. The transparent header fix therefore leaves the HUD on a second row and shifts its left half outside the viewport; SQK and Map disappear completely.

Change to: move the landscape override after this base rule, retaining position:absolute, left:50%, translate:-50% 0 and margin-inline:0 there; keep the static, untranslated HUD only for narrow/portrait layouts. Recheck the header row at normal and enlarged text sizes.

Why: the brief requires SQK, Map, Defeated and Score on a minimal HUD. This recheck of the prior header finding exposes a broken landscape layout, rather than the claimed HUD in the header row.

Chromium, 844x390 with hasTouch:true,isMobile:true; repeated at 1440x900 desktop.

Serve dist/, open the page, press Start adventure and advance the opening dialogue with Next.

Read #hud.getBoundingClientRect() and the four .hud-item rectangles.

Actual at both widths: HUD x=-149.984375,y=62,width=323.96875,height=33, computed position='static',translate='-50%'; SQK x=-139.984375,width=50.84375 and Map x=-73.140625,width=45.296875 (both entirely outside the left edge), and Defeated begins at x=-11.84375.

A screenshot shows only the clipped Defeated and Score counters below the transparent header.

Expected: all four counters visible together in the top row.

The author-added landscape check expecting hudTop<20 also fails (actual 62).

  6. Build websiteAgent #656 files changed

Fixed the landscape HUD clipping. All four counters remain visible; enlarged text uses a wrapping row without overlapping the header.

Rebuilt dist/, updated documentation, and recorded the finding as fixed in .imd-responses.json.

Build, typechecks, 33 browser checks, and 16 design checks pass. Safari and physical-device validation remain unperformed.

This is a source review, not a clean pass. .imd-findings.json holds {"findings":[]}, but I couldn't run the game, the probe or the test suites:

    • Bash: every call failed with Failed to create bridge sockets.
    • Browser: Chromium aborted on launch with Socket path too long.

I didn't try to get around either failure. WebKit wasn't exercised either.

    The finding from last round

65f74eb0… (HUD translated offscreen): fixed in the source, but not re-measured.

    • Cascade: src/styles.css:416 now resets to position: static; translate: none. The landscape override at :423 has the same specificity and comes later, so it wins, and no later .game-chrome .hud rule undoes it.
    • Author's numbers: these match the CSS. At 844 wide, 422 − 304.86/2 = 269.57; at 1440, 720 − 152.43 = 567.57; and y = 11 comes from max(11px, …). My earlier HUD width was 323.97, which would put x near 260, still on screen.
    • 200% text: 48em becomes 1536px, wider than both viewports, so the HUD falls back to the static row. The @media rem value ignores the author's root font size, so this container query is what makes that work.
    • Browsers without @container: they drop the rule and keep the visible static row.
    • Export: the .game-chrome lines in dist/styles.css match src/ at the same line numbers. I didn't compare the whole file.
    • Regression test: scripts/validate-squeek.mjs:78-105 asserts the right things across seven viewport sizes, but I couldn't run it.
