"Squeek Wheel Rush" is a free one-page browser game for the Squeekchain community. You play the hamster, Squeektoshi, running inside a giant wheel: the longer you stay on, the more points you earn and the harder it gets. Scores go onto a shared worldwide leaderboard. It is a community project, not made by the Squeekchain team (say so in small text on the start screen). Static site, vanilla JavaScript and canvas, no wallet connection, no keys, no transactions, works on phone and desktop.

LOOK: deep teal night room with a warm lamp glow, a large brass wheel, a cute orange cartoon hamster with a stuffed cheek, rounded heavy display font (Fredoka), big bold score. Polished and smooth, not generic.

WHAT EACH SCREEN SHOWS

  1. Start screen: title "Squeek Wheel Rush", a "Start running" button, one line on how to play (tap or press Space to jump, hold to jump higher), the "Top runners worldwide" list (top 5 to 10), and the community disclaimer. The wheel turns slowly behind it with the hamster jogging.
  2. Game screen: the hamster runs at the bottom INSIDE the wheel while sunflower seeds and red pegs ride the inner rim toward it along the curve. Big score at the top, the multiplier (x1.0 up to x12) and a timer under it, a mute button, and a status chip at the bottom centre that says "Squeektoshi is asleep" before a run and right after tripping, and "Squeektoshi is active" while running.
  3. Game over screen: "Tripped!" or "New best!", final score, time on the wheel, best score, a name box (up to 14 characters) with a "Claim score" button that submits to the leaderboard and says "Claimed. You're #N in the world.", a "Run again" button, and the leaderboard with the player's new row highlighted.

HOW IT PLAYS: tap, click or press Space/Up/W to jump; holding jumps higher (variable jump). Jump over pegs, collect seeds, rare gold stars are worth a lot. Tripping on a peg ends the run (tumble animation, the wheel winds down). Points are never lost.

SCORING AND DIFFICULTY: score rises every second (10 x multiplier). Multiplier = 1 + seconds/12, capped at x12. Seed = 25 x multiplier, gold star = 150 x multiplier. Wheel speed ramps from about 1.5 to 2.8 rad/s and after 25 s surges slightly. Patterns unlock over time: seed lines, a single hop with a seed arc, pairs and triples of pegs close together, tall pegs needing a full-height jump, a gold star above a tall peg. Short rest gaps between patterns, shorter as time passes. Short synthesized sounds (jump, seed pitch rising with combo, gold arpeggio, thud on trip, soft footsteps) with a mute button and the M key.

SQUEEKCHAIN LINK: every 3 seconds GET https://api.squeekchain.com/v1/status (public, CORS enabled). If measurement.freshness is "online" and measurement.rpmMilli > 0, the real hamster is running: all points are worth 25% more and a small "+25% live wheel" note shows under the score. Never block play when the data is missing or the hamster is asleep.

SHARED LEADERBOARD (already set up, public by design): Supabase project URL https://baugveuujnzqsuehfrxz.supabase.co and publishable key sb_publishable_WruR0oYAecH4If6PT9uj2A_YOsjdQZP (send it only as the "apikey" header). Read the list with POST {url}/rest/v1/rpc/top_scores and JSON body {"n":20}; it returns [{name, score, secs}], best score per name. Claim a score with POST {url}/rest/v1/rpc/submit_score and body {"p_name":"...","p_score":int,"p_secs":int}; it returns {"rank":n,"name":"..."}. Errors come back as {"message":"slow_down"} (wait a few seconds and let the player retry), "bad_score" or "bad_time" (run rejected). Title the list "Top runners worldwide". Do not use any other backend and do not add accounts.

Saved the findings in .imd-findings.json. Website files are unchanged.

    The three verified defects are:

    • bug: tripping teleports the wheel. At collision, its centre jumps 266.4px horizontally at 1440px width, or 36.14px upward at 390px. Keep the gameplay position throughout the tumble.
    • bug: repeat claims outside the top 20 can display incorrect ranked scores. The fallback combines the server’s retained-best rank with the latest, potentially worse run. Show unavailable best-score values honestly.
    • bug: a successful claim can leave the old score highlighted. An already-pending leaderboard read suppresses the post-claim refresh. Queue another read after that request finishes.

Each finding includes its exact source citation, change, rationale, and deterministic reproduction.

The 19 simulation tests passed. Additional source-executed checks covered claim loading, success, validation, rejection, cooldown, retry, leaderboard states, and API request contracts. Both supplied services answered read-only requests. No public scores were submitted.

Verification limit: Chromium failed to launch, and WebKit was unavailable. Browser layout, touch interaction, first-screen visibility, and taste@1 remain unverified. “Met” below means supported by source execution, inspection, service responses, or the inspected share image.

    • mediumbug: tripping teleports the wheel before the tumble finishessrc/render.js:285

Now: The renderer immediately applies the results-screen wheel position to the tripping state. The wheel jumps sideways on desktop and upward on phones at the instant of collision; phones also fade it to 27% opacity while the tumble is still playing.

Change to: Keep the running wheel position and opacity throughout tripping. Apply the results position and mobile fade only when game.state becomes 'over', after the 1.25-second tumble and wind-down.

Why: The brief asks for a polished, smooth tumble animation and a wheel that winds down. Moving the entire scene at collision interrupts that animation.

At 1440x900, click Start running and provide no jump input; watch the first peg collision before the result panel appears.

The running scene is 790px tall.

Calling the existing Renderer.draw(0, 4) with those dimensions before and immediately after Game.trip() measures cx changing from 720 to 986.4 at tripTime=0: a 266.4px instantaneous move.

At 390x844 (768px scene), the same calls measure cy changing from 397.1 to 360.96, a 36.14px upward move, and line 296 applies globalAlpha=.27.

Expected: the wheel stays in its gameplay position during the 1.25-second tripping state.

These are source-executed renderer measurements; browser visual confirmation was blocked by browser launch failures.

    • mediumbug: an off-board repeat claim pairs a best-score rank with the wrong scoresrc/main.js:218

Now: When the claimed name is absent from the returned top 20, the highlighted worldwide row combines the server's rank with the latest submitted score/time. The service retains the best score per name, so a worse repeat run can be displayed as if it were the ranked best.

Change to: Use score/time from top_scores whenever available. In the outside-top-20 fallback, retain the confirmed name and rank, but identify score/time as unavailable rather than filling best-score columns from the latest run; keep the latest run's score/time in the existing results panel.

Why: The brief defines this as a shared worldwide leaderboard of best scores per name. The client must not invent a best-score row from values the server did not return.

At 390x844 or 1440x900, use controlled API fixtures with 20 top_scores rows excluding RepeatRunner; RepeatRunner already has a best of 5000 points in 80 seconds at rank 27.

Finish a worse run of 200 points in 5 seconds and return {"rank":27,"name":"RepeatRunner"} from submit_score, leaving the top-20 response unchanged.

The existing renderBoard function was executed unchanged in a Node VM with DOM stubs and these inputs: its final row is rank 27, RepeatRunner, 0:05, 200.

Expected: the ranked best is 5000/1:20, or an explicit indication that its values are unavailable; 200/0:05 is only the latest run.

No score was submitted to the real service.

Browser rendering could not be confirmed because the browser would not launch.

    • mediumbug: a successful claim can permanently retain the pre-claim leaderboard rowsrc/main.js:227

Now: showResult starts a leaderboard read, but a successful claim discards its required refresh whenever that read is still pending. If the earlier read returns a snapshot from before the claim, the highlighted row continues showing the old best after the new best was accepted. No later refresh is scheduled.

Change to: Queue a follow-up read when a claim requests refresh during an existing read, or await the existing read and then fetch again. Render the claimed row from that post-claim response.

Why: The game-over screen must show the leaderboard with the player's new row highlighted, and successful claim feedback must agree with the displayed score.

At 390x844 or 1440x900, preload RepeatRunner with score 100, secs 5.

Finish a new best of 500, secs 20.

Delay the top_scores response started by showResult, retaining its pre-claim snapshot.

Claim as RepeatRunner and respond to submit_score immediately with {"rank":1,"name":"RepeatRunner"}; then release the delayed old top_scores response.

Expected: a follow-up top_scores request retrieves the accepted 500-point best.

Actual: refreshBoard returns at line 227; the board highlights 100 points and 0:05 indefinitely until manual refresh.

Executing the unchanged renderBoard/refreshBoard functions in a Node VM with deferred topScores reproduces one read instead of two and a final own row [1, RepeatRunner, 0:05, 100], with leaderboardBusy=false.

This is a deterministic async-state reproduction; browser execution was blocked by launch failures.
